2yr Old ½ Belgian ½ AQHA Gelding You know the horror stories you hear of a green rider purchasing a green horse and hoping they’d ride off into the sunset together? Yup, that was me. I bid on this 2yr old colt through a catalog sale out of Billings, MT, and was super excited to begin my journey with this lovely, *bombproof* advertised colt. You can imagine my surprise when he stepped off the trailer in a new place acting like everything but a bombproof gelding. I admit I made a mistake in this purchase, but I also feel like I may have been peddled a little bit. I was supposed to begin riding lessons at a facility next door after a brief quarantine period, however that didn’t happen, either. He was advertised as *excellent* with the farrier and vet. However, his feet were atrocious when he arrived, and a fecal test proved he was riddled with parasites. I had his feet done, twice, and I will note that he is in fact not excellent for the farrier. He was successfully treated for the parasites and had a full examination with the veterinarian here. After a few weeks to decompress out at pasture, I then followed up with a trainer in the area to do an evaluation after a few weeks of no improvement with his overall demeanor. That too was – not excellent. Long story short, the trainer suggested turning him out on pasture for the winter in hopes to allow him to reset a bit and sending him off to a colt starter in the spring to restart from square one. Or cut my losses and sell him to someone more equipped to handle a colt. The trainer did add that there isn’t anything wrong with this colt, he’s just that. A 2yr old colt. I have decided to market him after acknowledging that it would be some time before I, a beginner-novice-type rider, could safely ride alone down the trail with him. Even if he completed a colt start program in the spring. I will share his sale video with serious interested parties but prefer to steer clear of the gal I bought him from. That overall interaction hasn’t gone well at all. Again, another loss cut. Alas, I am offering this colt as a half draft 2yr old ready to start your way. If you’re a green rider like I am, don’t make the same mistake I did…seriously, for his sake. This colt needs to be started and treated right so that he might have a bright future out on the ranch or in the mountains. Currently stands 15.2hh. Located in Missoula, MT. PM for more info. Ransom is a gentle soul and has never shown any signs of being dangerous whatsoever. He just needs a more experienced handler than me who hasn't ridden much in the past 5 years. He has been ridden, and I can send video and more pics if interested.
