He was my very first horse, and I won’t sugarcoat it: letting him go is the hardest multiple‑choice question I’ve ever had to answer. But this special guy deserves a full, exciting show life, and I simply don’t have the saddle time to give him the career he’s ready for.
Case Study retired from racing in 2023 following the removal of a left knee chip. He rehabbed and recovered uneventfully, but ultimately did not show enough competitive ability to return to training. Since then, he has been completely straightforward and a model citizen in his second career. I’ve known him his entire life and am happy to provide full veterinary records, history, and plenty of fun facts to boot.

In 2024, he competed confidently in the show hunters and competitive trail at the Retired Racehorse Project, and since then has been a true gentleman at hunter paces and fox hunts. He has auto lead changes, making him easy and enjoyable to ride. Tie him anywhere — cross ties, a tree, your trailer, or probably even your mailbox — and he stands quietly like a seasoned pro. He is excellent for the vet and farrier, lives outside 24/7, and is a very easy keeper, only receiving grain during the winter months. He has been barefoot all winter while in work without missing a beat.
Case Study loves to jump and has the scope to continue progressing, though he will appreciate a confident rider as the fences get bigger. The absolute best part? He is the same horse every single day — whether he’s at home, away at a show, in a program, or coming back from time off. That kind of brain and reliability is priceless, and he has so much potential for the right partner.
