Meet Jim aka: Kentucky Jim. Jim is an unregistered Standard Bred palomino gelding who just turned 15yrs old (5/5/11). Jim is 15.2 hands and has an impressive background in endurance. This horse is a powerhouse on the trails! Jim basically self-loads in and out of the trailer and enjoys seeing the world. He is patient and will stand tied all day long. He has no bad vices (cribbing, weaving, pawing, etc.) or ongoing maintenance at this stage in his life, although I do give both of my horses MSM as a supplement. I have only owned Jim personally for the past 8 month, but he came highly referred to me by a local trainer in the area who has known him and his previous family for several years through the endurance community. Jim truly is the best’est boy, but being a fairly new rider, he can be a bit much for me out on the trail. Jim is extremely competitive and insists on being in the lead. He allows other horses in his immediate herd to ride side by side with him, but not in front of him. When riding with other horses outside of his immediate herd, he will have little tantrums if another horse gets in front of him. His tantrums basically consists of walking sideways, going in and out of his gates, and a few little pop-ups, if you allow it, which all stop as soon as he’s back in lead. Given these little fits, I think an intermediate rider would be best suited for Jim or someone who always want to be in the lead or enjoys solo riding. Jim is smart, athletic, and kind. It’s truly impressive how comfortable he feels in new surroundings which makes going out to different trails or events a breeze. Jim is a good boy in an arena so that might be an option for him as well.
