During that time, he has progressed beautifully through our training program, excelling in everything from foundational groundwork to advanced trail work and ranch work. Gunner is proof that looks and ability can come together in one very special horse. He is an experienced trail horse. On the trail, no matter the terrain, steep slopes, thick brush, or rough, rocky ground, he travels through it with sure feet and a careful, thoughtful way of going. He’s stout enough to pack your gear all day in the high country and never lose his willingness or try. His ground-covering trail walk eats up the miles comfortably, while his smooth, consistent gaits make long days in the saddle a pleasure. Gunner has a beautiful headset, a fantastic running walk, a silky-smooth fox trot, and can canter, too. All of his gaits are solid and comfortable. He neck reins softly and easily with one hand, side passes, and backs up willingly. He stands perfectly still for mounting from either side and will even side-pass right up to the mounting block with a simple snap of your fingers. He has been exposed to virtually everything a trail horse will ever encounter: water crossings, bridges, cattle, dogs, traffic, wildlife, and bullwhips. He handles it all with a level head. He’s been used to check cattle, open and close gates, carry the flag, and drag anything you dally to the saddle horn. Gunner has been to many field trials and has extensive experience bird hunting and working with bird dogs. Whether you’re riding out alone for a quiet adventure or heading out with a group of horses, he is happy to lead or follow. In the barn, Gunner is a gentleman. He is easy to catch, quiet and well-mannered on the ground, and gets along great with other horses. He stands patiently for grooming, bathing, and the farrier, travels well, and is broke to hobbles. His curious and affectionate personality makes him a joy to be around every day. Gunner is flashy and refined enough to be a standout lady’s horse, yet big, stout, and strong enough to comfortably carry any gentleman.
