For Sale: Suede – 11-Year-Old Stunning Trail and Parade Horse Meet Suede, a striking 11-year-old horse born in July 2015, standing at 16.1 hands and weighing around 1150 lbs. With the strong lineage of Scare Down (appendix Quarter Horse) as his sire and a grade Quarter Horse/Paint dam, Suede carries the best traits of both—looking just like his sire with a flashy, beautiful presence. His vet describes him as a warmblood type without the big price tag. Suede has been part of our family since he was four. He was solidly trained on the ground and first ridden in 2019. Barefoot with a consistent 7-8-week trim schedule, he comfortably wears Easyboot Gloves (size 3.5 front, 4 back) for trail protection. This versatile horse excels on the trails—he’s ridden in endurance and western saddles without back cinch. Suede has safely ponied many challenging horses, always showing calmness and reliability. I usually ride in company on trails for safety as I’m in my mid-60s, but Suede is an exceptional companion who offers more “whoa” than “go.” Suede’s impressive resume includes Drill Team work with the Paradise Horseman Association, carrying the American flag in parades, and calming hot mares around him. He’s unfazed by parade chaos and thrives on long trail rides and camping adventures with friends. Gentle with children and always affectionate, Suede loves attention and has a soft, loving nature. He is experienced with trail obstacles like water crossings, bridges, and has even encountered wildlife calmly. Suede safely hauls in a 2-horse step-up open stock trailer and loves sticking his nose out for fresh air. In the arena, Suede walks, trots, and canters both leads, showing eagerness to learn. Although ridden lightly these days, he’s too wonderful a horse not to be active. He has the potential to be a junior or amatuer owner hunter. Suede enjoys a diet of alfalfa and grass hay (about 15 lbs twice daily), slow and easy at mealtime, with favorite treats including watermelon, bananas, apples, carrots, and peppermints. He is currently at Doon Grade Ranch to facilitate showings.
