Matte has been with me since 2019. I originally purchased her with the intention of making her my show horse, but she simply does not have the drive for that job. I decided to breed her, and she produced a beautiful filly. Matte was a maiden mare, bred via AI, and settled on the first attempt. She had an easy pasture birth and was an excellent mother — her filly was up, dry, and nursing before I even made it home. She is an easy keeper, sound, and very pleasant to handle.

Matte is broke to ride and has been started on the barrel pattern, but she is not a competitive barrel prospect or an NFR-type horse. My focus is Western Pleasure, and I believe she is better suited to producing ranch-type foals with great movement, versatility, and plenty of color.

Her quirks are the reason she is being offered. Matte spent her entire life on one ranch before coming to me, primarily as a pasture horse with some training along the way. She is comfortable and reliable riding at home in her familiar environment, but traveling and riding somewhere new is not her favorite. She can be spooky and is not the type of horse I would describe as a casual “putter around” ride. I would consider her best suited for an experienced rider. She is not a beginner or husband horse.

She loads (with some patience), bathes, stands well for the farrier, and is easy to doctor or give injections to. She ties, but she does require awareness — if left alone or stressed, she will set back and can break halters or posts. A pulling halter is what I have found works best. She is also the pasture boss. She is not aggressive or dangerous, but she will always be first to the hay and feed.

I own her full brother, and he does not have these quirks. Her filly has been sensible, trainable, and easy to work with. I also owned and successfully showed her grand sire and grand dam, so this is a line I believe in — Matte simply did not receive the foundation needed to fit into my current program.
