While Red is technically 19 years old, you wouldn't believe it by her eagerness to go to work. Her reining foundation makes her fun to ride, with an eagerness to stop, smooth transitions, and moves off your feet. She is unbothered by farm equipment, kids, dogs, and sheep. Has worked cows, goes down the trail, and is our go-to for pulling the kids around on the sled. Has been ridden by beginners through advanced, and everyone has loved her. Super easy keeper, stands for the vet and farrier, stands tied (likes to untie herself but never leaves), hauls, lunges, bathes, and clips. She appreciates being loved on and can take some time off and goes back to work without issue. She is absolutely one of my favorite horses to ride, she's rusty right now but rides around like an old show horse.

She is NOT selling as 100% performance horse sound but is absolutely sound to trail ride and enjoy. In 2024 she was diagnosed with desmitis in the right hind suspensory branch; with time off and a recheck by the vet, she was 100% cleared to go back to work. Unfortunately, she did not come back 100% performance-horse sound. Sometimes she takes a funny step with the right hind, sometimes she doesn't. She does have shallow soles and should wear shoes or hoof boots to stay comfortable when being ridden. When we were riding her regularly, an annual chiropractic adjustment and annual hock injections were done for her comfort as well. She has some clouding in her left eye that vets have looked at and are not concerned about and it hasn't changed in the 4 years I've owned her. She can be watchy, but reminding her to stay focused on the task at hand is all she needs. She's just a Border Collie at heart and her brain is always going. When she gets to thinking too hard she thinks she needs to worry, remind her to chill out and pay attention and she's fine. She can get anxious when hauled, tied, or turned out alone but remains respectful and easy to handle. She has never offered to set back, buck, rear, kick, or bite.

Only looking for a new ZIP code because our 7-year-old has chosen to ride our other mare and I need to take a step back from horses for a while. Red deserves to be someone's #1 and is not loving her semi-retirement here. Take her on the trails, ride her around the farm, pull the kids around, teach some lessons - she's just probably not going to go to town and be 100% sound to show.
