This is a hard one to write, because Petal is a really lovely horse and I genuinely want to find her the person who will let her shine. Petal is an 8-year-old, 15.3hh OTTB who jumps and is currently schooling First Level dressage. She is a beautiful mover when she has a rider who is confident enough to help her use herself correctly, and she has the athleticism and ability to continue progressing in either direction. She has schooled cross country in the past (before coming to me), and she has competed at schooling shows in Training Level dressage, consistently scoring in the mid-to-high 60s, with nice comments from the judges about her movement. She is an easy keeper, barefoot, sound, good for the farrier, and trailers well. She has a popped splint on the front left that is completely healed and has caused no soundness issues. X-rays are available for review. And now for the honest part… I am a 40-year-old adult re-rider who only gets to ride a couple of times a week. I made the mistake of thinking I still had the guts I had when I was younger to ride a forward horse like Petal. Haha. Turns out, as I’ve gotten older, my brain has developed a much stronger appreciation for not falling off. Petal is not a bad horse. We are simply a mismatch. She would really benefit from being in a program where she is ridden more consistently by a confident, capable rider who enjoys a forward, athletic horse and is willing to help her continue developing. She has so much potential, and I think the right person is going to have a lot of fun with her. I’m looking for high four figures for her, or I would consider a trade for a horse who is happier with a couple rides a week and would enjoy a slower-paced life doing low-level dressage and the occasional crossrail with an adult amateur who is just trying her best. I am not looking to pass her around—I want to find the right fit for both of us. Someone patient enough to appreciate an adult amateur who occasionally needs a pep talk, and someone who can give Petal the consistency and confidence she deserves. Located in Bay City, MI.
