Smart Thornton “Waffles” | 2015 AQHA Stallion | 13.3 HH | Lineback Dun
If you are looking for a horse that is gentle, handy, broke and genuinely enjoyable to have around, Waffles is the kind that is hard to find.
Waffles is an 11 year old AQHA stallion standing 13.3 hands with a pedigree packed full of cow horse breeding. He is by Smart Royal Badger and out of High Brow Piper, with Smart Little Lena, Smart Peppy, High Brow Hickory and Shorty Lena right on his papers.
Last year Waffles spent four months with a cutting horse trainer to put a solid foundation on him and introduce him to working cattle. He naturally wants to watch a cow and enjoys having a job. He has been hauled to cutting shows and handles busy environments, crowds, warm up pens and large groups of horses without an issue.
Waffles is much more than an arena horse. He has been used around the ranch, worked cattle, been roped off of, carried a flag and covered plenty of country. He will cross water, handle hills and uneven terrain and go through a variety of obstacles. If the cows unexpectedly need put up, he is the kind you can catch, hop on bareback and go get the job done. He has plenty of stamina and can work all day.
He has been ridden by a variety of riders, including kids. He is used to dogs, cats, kids running and yelling, ATVs, side by sides and everyday ranch commotion. He can be ponied from another horse or alongside a side by side and takes new things in stride.
Waffles is extremely easy to catch and genuinely loves attention. He is good with his feet, loads and hauls well, stands for bathing and is comfortable with water and spray bottles.
One of the things we appreciate most about Waffles is that he does not require constant riding to stay manageable. He can sit in the pasture for months, then be caught and saddled without becoming a different horse. He is willing, eager to please and wants to be with you.
Although Waffles is still a stallion, he is exceptionally respectful around other horses and mares. He hauls with other horses and has even been used to pony mares in heat without an issue. His manners make it easy to forget he is a stallion.
Waffles has good feet, straight legs and recently completed a PPE and was sound. He is current on vaccinations, Coggins and dental care.
At 13.3 hands, he is a handy size with enough substance to do a full day’s work. Whether someone wants to continue developing him on cattle, use him around the ranch, trail ride him or simply have a safe, enjoyable horse to keep around, Waffles has a lot to offer.
He is the kind that can have time off, go back to work and still be the same good minded horse you turned out.
