Slate is a stunning 8-year-old, 40” blue roan pony gelding with the looks, experience, and training to make him an exceptional driving partner. At the perfect age and with tons of real-world miles under his belt, Slate is a finished driving pony who is ready to hitch up and enjoy.

Driving is where Slate truly shines. He has been extensively driven out on both back roads and main roads and is traffic safe and confident around everything from everyday vehicles to large trucks. Cars and big trucks can come toward him head-on, pass alongside him, or meet him out on the road, and Slate handles it all like a champ. He is the kind of pony that makes driving enjoyable rather than stressful. Whether it’s a child wanting to drive around the arena or an adult looking for a dependable pony to take out and put miles on, Slate is suitable for all levels of drivers and is happy to go wherever you point him.

Slate has also been started under saddle and spent approximately 90 days this past winter with kids putting riding time on him. However, he has not been ridden consistently since then, and we want to be very clear that we are offering and representing Slate as a finished driving and trick pony—not as a finished riding pony. For an experienced child or capable rider who enjoys finishing one out, he certainly has the foundation and potential to continue his riding education. A greener or beginner rider would need someone experienced to finish him properly before we would consider him suitable for them.

To make Slate even more fun, he is trick trained! He will lay down on command and sit on a beanbag, giving him plenty of personality to go along with his good looks and driving experience.

Slate is sound and current on his routine care, including farrier, vaccinations, deworming, and dental. He is a gorgeous, experienced, versatile pony with a tremendous amount to offer someone looking for a truly finished driving pony.
