This is a very special horse who has had an incredible life and is now ready for his next person.
Mio was imported from Holland with an extensive upper-level dressage résumé. He was actively showing and winning at Z2/approximately 4th Level dressage with 11 winning points, schooling Prix St. Georges movements, performing flying changes and canter pirouettes, and earned the highly respected SPORT predicate based on his performance in upper-level dressage.
He is a 1st Premie Friesian with an exceptional Ster–Ster–Model–Ster+Pref pedigree and all the presence, hair and movement you would expect from a quality imported Friesian.
But what I love most about him is the horse he has become since then.
For years Mio has stepped away from the dressage-show lifestyle and has been enjoyed as a family and trail horse. He has safely carried kids, ridden out on trails and been the kind of horse we can pull out and enjoy without needing him in a full-time program. He has previous beach and hacking experience as well.
He is extremely well educated under saddle, responsive to the seat and aids, and has far more buttons than most recreational horses. At the same time, he is perfectly happy just heading down the trail.
He trailers, ties and handles the normal day-to-day horse life well. He has a sweet, affectionate “teddy bear” personality and loves having a job and attention.
Mio still has the big, beautiful Friesian movement and presence that made him successful in dressage. He is not a small or dead-sided horse — he is 16.1 hands with suspension and a lot of horse underneath you — but he has proven to be a safe and sensible member of our family.
We are only considering selling because he simply isn’t being used enough. Riding a horse with this much education and ability once a month feels like a waste when he genuinely enjoys having a person and a job.
