Rita is a beautiful, rich chocolate-colored Missouri Fox Trotter mare with a long, coppery-flaxen mane. She is a standout wherever she goes and the kind of horse who is sure to get you noticed. Over the last three summers, Rita has been part of a children’s riding camp, helping teach children how to ride. Beginners as young as 8 have ridden her successfully within the supervised camp setting, although she was often chosen by the instructors because she was, as they said, fun to ride. She has been ridden both English and Western, in the arena and out on the trail. Rita is only being offered for sale because of the unexpected passing of our father. This is not an easy sale, and finding a good home for her matters very much to us. Rita is best suited to an intermediate rider who will appreciate her responsiveness and continue bringing out her natural ability. She is light and soft in the bridle, moves willingly, and has a genuine desire to please. Rita is perfectly comfortable riding with non-gaited horses. She does not need to be in a gaited-only group to enjoy the trail, making her an especially practical choice for someone whose friends or barnmates ride Quarter Horses, Paints, drafts, or other non-gaited breeds. One of Rita’s greatest qualities is how genuinely she enjoys people. She is often one of the first horses to come up to you in the pasture. She is outgoing, friendly, interested, willing to please, and happy to receive attention. Then there is her ride…. When you pick up faster gaits, Rita absolutely glides. Her gaits are exceptionally smooth, comfortable, and easy on your back and joints. If you appreciate a gaited horse because you want to spend hours comfortably in the saddle, this is where Rita truly shines. She also has the stamina to complement how comfortable she is to ride. Rita is capable of lengthy trail rides and is the kind of horse you could enjoy riding throughout the day. Rita has extensive exposure to wildlife, both in her everyday life on our farm and while riding on the trails. She is accustomed to encountering traffic, wildlife, farm machinery, dogs, and other commotion in a variety of settings. Rita also has good ground manners and is easy to handle. She ties, stands for grooming and saddling, picks up all four feet, fly sprays, and behaves well for both the farrier. She is good for bathing and loads and hauls. Rita can occasionally be a little looky when introduced to something unfamiliar on the ground, but she responds well to a calm, confident handler who gives her a moment to take it in. 8,500 We will continue riding and working with her until she sells, and her price may increase accordingly.
