🐴 Bourbon — 8-Year-Old Grade Sorrel Gelding
Bourbon is a big-hearted working horse with a tough-guy persona that doesn't tell the whole story. Don't let that exterior fool you — Bourbon absolutely loves attention and will happily take every pet, scratch, and bit of affection you’re willing to give him.
Bourbon is an 8-year-old Grade Sorrel Gelding who has primarily been used for riding out on the Pawnee Grasslands, moving and sorting cattle. He also does very well out on trail rides alone or with one other horse. When riding in a larger group, Bourbon does best with consistent riding and preparation beforehand to help keep him focused and confident in a group setting.
He is comfortable and capable out in the country, including steep and uneven terrain and crossing deep water, which he has done without hesitation. He has been started on opening and closing gates, and has been introduced to roping a stationary dummy.

❤️ Personality & Handling
Bourbon does best with a confident, experienced handler who will establish clear leadership and boundaries. He needs a steady hand and someone who understands how to be the leader without making things a battle. Once that relationship and leadership are established, he is very compliant and willing to work.
His tough-guy attitude can show more strongly when he is put into an unfamiliar social situation. Bourbon was proud cut when gelded, and this is something a potential buyer should understand.
He previously lived at a training facility in a paddock with two other geldings, surrounded by mares and geldings, and did well in that environment. He displayed more of a stud-like personality when turned out in a mixed group of mares and geldings.
For the past 3½ years, Bourbon has lived on a 155-acre pasture with one other gelding and cattle. He is not a horse that can sit for too long. He needs consistent riding and miles to keep the cobwebs out of his brain and stay focused.
For that reason, Bourbon is best suited for a more experienced horse person who can provide consistent leadership.

Bourbon stands well for the farrier and baths, leads, loads in the trailer, and stands tied without issue.
He is recommended to remain shod with pads on his front feet.
