Georgia is an 8 year old mare that we’ve owned since she was 3. She is 15.2 and big bodied, everyone thinks she’s 16 hands when they meet her. We started her ourselves with a slow and mostly positive reinforcement style of training. She has lots of trail miles and a good number of camping trips under her belt. She is an easy horse to have around in the barn and while camping. She is super personable and loves human attention. She’s always the first to greet people at the gate and hang out with visitors in the pasture. On the trail she needs a rider with some confidence but I wouldn’t say she requires anything more than an intermediate rider. She isn’t a plug but isn’t overly forward( which is our main reason for seeking a perfect home for her, we prefer a very forward endurance minded horse for trail riding). Georgia did one intro endurance ride and made it clear that that wasn’t the sport for her and she would prefer a slower pace for trail riding, but again I wouldn’t call her lazy or slow. She’s not the type to eat up the trail for miles on end. She has a lovely gait at around 6/7 mph and a nice canter as well. She can tend toward trotty but does well if kept a little slower with some contact to shorten up her stride to maintain gait. She has never once offered to buck, bolt, or rear. She is ridden in a rope halter only so far. She hops right in the trailer with no issues, can be tethered while camping. She does well out in a herd and gets along with everyone. She has been kept barefoot her whole life with regular trims. We aren’t in a hurry to sell her but if the perfect home comes along we are open to seeing if she is someone’s heart horse. She’s too special to sit around as a back up horse for our family. We don’t currently have videos available of gait but will work on getting some in the next month. Can share lots of photos of her in the meantime time.
