Beautiful, five-year-old Gypsy-cross pony/cob, 14h, ride and drive. He is a very unusual color, changing with the seasons. He is what most people would call a red dun or red roan, but with his summer frosting of white hair and black in the winter, we have decided he is rubicano. Louie is regularly ridden by a friend who is 60 years old and was trail ridden by his original owner. He will also drive safely out on our country roads pulling our cob marathon cart. He does not bite or kick or have any vices. Louie spent 5 days at the National Drive this fall where he quietly drove all through the park, with others or by himself. He walked right into the water, over the bridge, and right through the covered wagon, fort, and tarp obstacles. The only thing that spooked him all week was when another horse and carriage barreled into the water splashing behind him. Louie just needs a little more experience. He is already quiet and willing, mostly preferring slow to fast. Stands for shots, farrier, gets along with other horses, and loads right into the trailer. I bought him a year and a half ago because I had lost my previous draft pony and at 79 years old, needed a cob that was gentle and safe. Louie has matured in the last 18 months to a hefty1150 pounds (measured at the National Drive.) And I have turned 80 and had a knee replacement, my second hip replacement, and back surgery since his purchase. He and his cob cart are now just too big and heavy for me to handle easily. I am sadly moving down to a much smaller pony and cart. While Louie is gentle and well-broken, he can still be ‘pushy’, as many draft ponies are. Despite being rated as a ‘2’ in temperament, he still needs an owner who will take charge and remind him often of his manners. But his intentions are good and he has a friendly, inquisitive, and intelligent personality. Would be a great ride or drive horse for anyone with a little experience with draft animals. His harness and 4 year old Poj-Kon Max crossover cob carriage can also be purchased with him, if requested. For more information or photos call Bob at 463-235-0423.
