BOTTOMS UP BLUE DUCK, affectionately known as “Cletus,” is a 2016 AQHA gelding standing 15.2 hands, whose résumé extends well beyond the barrel pen. Combining the credentials of a finished barrel horse with the versatility of a dependable ranch and trail mount, Cletus offers an appealing combination of experience, ability, and disposition. He is the kind of gelding that can serve a purpose in a competitive setting without sacrificing the qualities that make a horse enjoyable to own the other six days of the week.
In the barrel pen, Cletus knows his job, takes on new facilities with a level head and is always ready go to work. Outside the arena, he is equally comfortable navigating the trails, covering country, or lending a hand with the day-to-day responsibilities of ranch life. He has an excellent handle, is responsive to his rider, and possesses the kind of practical education that translates into a variety of situations. His versatility doesn't stop with a saddle and bridle, either. Cletus rides both bareback and bridleless, further demonstrating the foundation and communication he has developed under saddle.
Perhaps one of his most valuable attributes is his disposition. Cletus has a genuinely pleasant personality and an agreeable nature that makes him suitable for a wide variety of riders. From catching him in the pasture to grooming, saddling, loading, and handling him around the barn, he approaches the everyday aspects of horse ownership with good manners and a cooperative attitude. He is the sort of horse that makes spending time at the barn something to look forward to, whether you're preparing for a competition or simply enjoying an afternoon ride.
What makes Cletus particularly special is that his usefulness isn't confined to one specific job or type of rider. He offers the opportunity to enjoy a finished barrel horse while still having a dependable partner for leisurely rides and practical work. For someone looking to participate in multiple aspects of the equine industry, or a family wanting a versatile gelding with something to offer different members of the household, Cletus deserves serious consideration.
A horse with a job is valuable. A horse with several jobs, an excellent disposition, and the manners to make every day enjoyable is something worth appreciating. Cletus brings those qualities together in one well-rounded, 15.2-hand package.
