Sometimes you meet a horse you don't forget.
I originally met Maynard when I was hired to do his marketing video. At the end of a long, cold day filming in a frozen field, Menno told me, "Take him for a spin."
So I did. I had just asked Menno's daughter to lope Maynard through a frozen field and now that I was on him and I saw how treacherous the footing was! I believe I later told her she could always tell me no on something. Maynard handled it like a pro tho! I knew immediately that I liked this horse.
WHY MAYNARD STOOD OUT
His mind, movement and obviously his coloring! He was born and raised on the same farm that has his sire and dam. In the photos and some video, you can see his team member and that will actually be his sire or dam. He's been to town with events and pulled wagons throughout he woods, he's taken Menno's family to church and community events - he's lived a lifestyle where you need a dependable and honest horse. Everyone who has been a part of his life so far has believed in this horse.
He stays level-headed. He genuinely desires to get along with is rider or driver, and his cues are simple. His movement is smooth and comfortable, and despite being a big, beautiful half draft, he is not intimidating. There is no bucking, rearing, etc.
He's such an enjoyable horse, I took him to a horse show and handed the reins over to several of my friends because I wanted people to experience him for themselves. Their reactions in the video are genuine.
One hadn't ridden much in years and I encouraged him to drop the reins, trust Maynard and lope off.
With another friend, I actually reached up and removed the bridle while they were sitting on him! That's how much confidence I have in this horse. You can ride him in a bridle, halter or twine string.
Remember - he's just 4 years old! He has experience to be useful in any direction you want to take him. Trails, family horse, lesson horse, carriage horse, therapy horse, ranch horse, dressage horse, mounted patrol...the list goes on! He's the kind you can envision doing a bit of everything with.
Most importantly, Maynard enjoys people. He has a fun, personable nature and genuinely seems to enjoy being part of what you are doing.
