Kodiak- 7yr 17.3 h crossbred gelding. I say crossbred because I do not know his breeding but I am sure something like a dutch harness cross or something of that nature. Kodiak was imported from Canada where he was both a riding and driving horse. Those of you who truly like a tall horse this one is just stunning in all the ways. He is a gentle giant. Whoever had this horse did an absolutely wonderful job in his manners/training. He ground ties like a pro. Excellent for shipping, clipping, wash stall, baths, tacking, farrier, vet, etc. He is huge but a kid could handle him because he is gentle. When he gets "puffed" up it is that super light dance in place prance fancy kind of up that makes you giggle. We have put a nice start on him on the flat, hacking out, starting over jumps and more. He also recently went for two weeks of a driving evaluation with the amish. They really wanted to buy him and said this horse is just so well trained when it comes to driving that he easily could be a pleasure driving horse or teach people about driving. He is turns well and drives soft. They took him all through the fields, down the roads and more. I realize that this is not everyone's cup of tea in terms of the way he goes and people have commented well he needs to stretch more under tack and ewww he look like he is rough to ride. I can tell you that this horse is light, buttery soft, never pulls, super uphill, great mover, great hind leg and is very smooth. The canter is super easy to ride so I honestly think you might be kind of shocked if you sat on him but hey what do I know :) I do think he will learn to stretch more but his background has been as a driving horse so a little bit is letting him realize he can go down there. He prefers a soft hand as he is a very light horse. He is a quiet horse and if anything can be behind the leg so we do ride him a bit forward. I will make a video showing what he looks like if you just do nothing. He is sound with no vices. His feet are normal size and he is EXCELLENT for the farrier getting kudos. He does roar which I think is pretty common with these big giant horses. He has excellent stamina and will go all day so while he is noisy it has not affected his work. He is the absolute biggest sweetie. He loves everyone. He is a gentle giant. He is just truly a fun horse. Once again while his brain is wonderful, he is a very large athletic horse that will intimidate some people with all that size/power :) These are the more athletic types that aren't the walk slowly down the trail crosses lol. I think he would be awesome at driving/foxhunting, eventing, jumpers, dressage, etc. I was told that no serious dressage person would ever consider these types of horses which hey maybe is true but also maybe it isn't. I think they are cool and this horse can really sit down in ways that might shock you! It's all just training at the end of the day and that is what dressage is supposed to be about.
