Rusty an early 20 something sorrel grade gelding approx 15 h. Very personable and easy to handle, loves attention and grooming, will stand quietly for hours including for the farrier (goes barefoot). Easy to load and unload in the trailer, doesn’t mind a bath or water. Rides in a very mild western shank or loose ring snaffle. Rusty has earned his retirement from our lesson program, but is still sound and willing for his next chapter. I see him being an asset for someone who just wants a safe quiet trail horse. Rusty came to me about 5 years ago as a western only horse, while here he learned to jump cross rails and do basic dressage, so he can ride English as well. He’s current on hoof trims, worming, vaccines, teeth, and coggins. Please pass him by if your looking for a horse to fill a spot in your lesson program, he’s has earned semi retirement and deserves his best life now.
Rusty needs someone with prior horse experience, he’s not a beginner horse. I have listed his pros and cons. Please be sure you meet what he needs as well as your own needs based on the information I’m listing, please refrain from contacting me if not.
Pros: no buck, spook, or dangerous behavior , won’t run off with you, has a good stop
Great on trail rides
Easy to catch, will meet you at the gate often
Can be lead and groomed by beginners and kids
Can have kids on him if lead around
Cons: not a beginner horse
Must be comfortable wearing spurs(doesn’t need them to go) if you don’t, he knows it and won’t always listen to where you want him to go
Rider must know how to steer with the outside aids, he hates being pulled on the inside rein for directions
If he’s been off for awhile he settles better if longed first(he knows how to do this well)but no buck if you don’t, he just may want to keep trying to lope
He's smart to a fault, if you can’t preform what’s listed above, he’s not for you, he’ll figure you out fast and go where he wants.
Rusty doesn't have a western pleasure type stride, its bigger and somewhat lofty, sometimes it's much more comfortable at the trot if you know how to post.
