Honey is a sweet 12yo, 14.2h grade qh mare. We are rehoming her as a companion, but she could be used for light riding with maintenance and limitations. Honey has chronic laminitis and very thin soles; she is pasture sound but needs hoof boots when riding or glue-ons for fronts. To keep her riding sound long-term, will need some rehab with a skilled farrier to build sole depth. A drylot is ideal for her condition, but could be ok with limited turnout in spring/fall or a grazing muzzle. She is fine in the summer and winter on pasture with monitoring. She has a history of back/withers injury and mild arthritis; if in regular work, needs regular chiro. If a companion horse, will still want to do some back leg stretches to allow for hoofcare. We have her on MSM daily and Bute when riding. Rider weight limit 140; W/T only. Honey is currently in a mixed herd and gets along well with all types of horses - not a bully and isn\'t bothered by them; no resource-guarding or anxious behaviors. She loves attention and to be groomed but is respectful of your space and has good ground manners. Sweet and eager to please; very sensitive/responsive; ideal rider is adult ammy with soft hands willing to ride in sidepull. Enjoys trail rides with other horses or alone. She\'s kid-safe and bombproof but doesn\'t prefer riding with kids due to their confusing cues/bounciness/rough hands. Her ideal situation is an adult owner who values spending time with the horse on the ground and is willing to do stretches, therapies, groundwork, etc. - not just hop on and ride but take an interest in caring for the horse\'s well-being. Not one you can pull out after sitting for weeks and ride without physical issues that may look behavioral (ear-pinning, head-tossing, kicking out for hoofcare if her legs/back are tight). She\'s currently in a program with young kids whose hands are too rough (and should really be on a smaller horse), or older kids who are often too heavy for her to carry comfortably. As a nonprofit we struggle to fund her hoofcare/chiro needed to keep her in full work, and we are too short-staffed to devote as much time to her therapies as would be best. In the three years we\'ve had her, we\'ve put a lot(!) of money into trying to identify her issues and what will work best, and at this point just want her to find a home where she can bond with her owner and thrive with the care she needs. Asking $2000. Will negotiate substantially if you can provide farrier/vet/barn references - we won\'t be selling to a flipper/trader or someone who will dump her at auction! Please message if you have questions or would like to visit.
