Ameliorate ("Mel") is a lovely, sweet mare with a true in-your-pocket personality. She genuinely enjoys attention and thrives on partnership, always eager to please and quick to learn. Mel has excellent ground manners, stands quietly on the cross ties, clips easily, and is respectful for both the farrier and veterinarian.
Mel combines intelligence, a willing attitude, and a level-headed temperament. She is uncomplicated to ride in a simple snaffle and has no history of bucking, rearing, or spinning. Under saddle, she offers three balanced gaits, picks up both leads with ease, and naturally seeks a consistent, soft connection with her rider.
She is more "whoa" than "go," making her a comfortable and confidence-inspiring ride. When asked to move forward, she responds willingly and comes back easily to the rider. Mel accepts leg aids well, is developing confidence in staying in front of the leg, and already demonstrates encouraging softness, relaxation, and suppleness throughout her body.
Despite not having regular access to an arena, Mel has been ridden extensively in open fields and remains sensible, focused, and dependable. Her intelligence and trainability suggest she would excel in a variety of disciplines, including dressage, eventing, or the jumper ring. She enjoys having a job and consistently demonstrates a willingness to learn new skills.
Mel retired from racing following a successful procedure to remove knee chip fractures at Mid-Atlantic on October 18, 2025. After completing rehabilitation, she was fully cleared by her veterinary team to begin a second career with no restrictions and no anticipated limitations to future performance.
Currently barefoot, sound, and free of vices, Mel is ready for her next partner to continue her education and enjoy all she has to offer. With her kind disposition, trainable mind, and amateur-friendly nature, she is an exciting prospect for someone looking to develop a versatile and willing partner.
