I have decided to offer my beautiful TWH mare for sale. No fault of hers, my circumstances changed and I just don’t ride her as I should, Dixie is 12 YO and stands at 15.3+. She is a big built horse with good bone. She is very smart and loves learning tricks - she can pee on command (handy for trailering and a neat stall), she will lay down, bow (altho that may need refreshing), move over to the mounting block or log if you are in the woods, and will pick up your glove if you drop it while riding. She likes learning obstacles and last summer we won 1st place in two categories at an obstacle challenge. She is a great trail horse with a solid mind. She doesn’t spook easily, and if she does she simply stops. All you have to say is “Put your nose on it” and her head comes down and she will walk towards whatever caught her eye. I have ridden her on trails in the Ozark Mountains, MO, all over south NJ including the beach on the ocean side and the bay side, the entire VA Creeper Trail including all of the really high trestles, many trails here in the mountains of East TN including horse camping at Big South Fork in Jamestown. She hops right in any trailer and will tie up anywhere to be saddled or if you stop for lunch. Crossing streams and going into water is never a problem. Dixie does have a couple vices. 1. She doesn’t gait well. Mainly because she is my first gaited horse and I really don’t know how to keep her in her gait, so she has become pacey. I think that could be fixed with practice, but I mainly walk thru the trails so I never cared. 2. She doesn’t ride out well alone anymore. Since I don’t ride alone, she has gotten out of practice with that. She likes to lead if you have more than a few riders, so I think she is not afraid of going alone, more just hollering at her friends she left behind and being side tracked with that. Last thing - she doesn’t love arena work. She will walk around the arena, but doesn’t see the point. I have kind of changed my focus from trail riding to ranch riding so she doesn’t get ridden as much. That said, she is the same ride every time whether you ride daily or once every couple of months. She has never bucked or acted poorly in the 6 years I have owned her. I want her to go to a good home, someone who will dote on her and keep her pretty and ride thru the woods where she likes to be. Her barn manners are great, she is fine for the farrier and has been hot-shoed. She loves getting baths, which is great because she loves getting dirty, lol. She will stand forever in cross ties or straight tied. Dixie is the boss in the pasture, teaching all the other horse (mares and geldings) to mind their manners. She is easy to catch, you have to go to her but she won’t run. She is really a great mare, in the prime of her life. I feel bad that she is sitting. That is the only reason I am selling.
