Kendrix is an intelligent and engaging 16 hh, 10-year-old registered Dutch Warmblood gelding available for adoption to a carefully screened home. Located in Newberry, Florida.

While Kendrix is responsive and enjoyable to work with, he is not suitable for an inexperienced handler. He has a known history of biting and is not appropriate for children, inexperienced horsepeople, lesson programs, or busy public boarding facilities. He is seeking a private home with one or two highly experienced adults who enjoy training and building a relationship with an intelligent, athletic, and boundary-testing horse.

Under saddle, Kendrix has experience in both English and Western disciplines. He backs, has a good stop, schooling in Training Level dressage, comfortable WTC, good transitions; leg yields, free walks, stretchy trots, and good bend, rhythm, straightness, and contact for this level. He has also begun learning shoulder-in and travers. From his western training, Kendrix can WTC on a loose rein; yield hindquarters/forequarters; counterbend; one-rein stop; side-pass; and demonstrate good lateral and vertical flexion.

Kendrix is generally the same horse after time off. He is comfortable working alone, both in and outside the arena. When ridden with a group on the trail, he can become more energetic and requires a confident rider.

Kendrix has completed extensive groundwork including desensitization, yielding, backing, lunging, sending exercises, and obstacle work. He has also been introduced to trick training, including bowing and the Spanish walk.

Kendrix is healthy, currently sound, and up to date on vaccinations and hoof care. He is an easy keeper maintained on a ration balancer with hay and pasture. He is currently barefoot in Florida’s sandy environment but would likely require shoes on harder footing. He has mildly sticky stifles, although they have not noticeably affected his comfort, soundness, or movement during the six years I have owned him.

Kendrix gets along very well with other horses and is typically at the bottom of the herd hierarchy. He is comfortable living primarily on pasture or with regular stall time. He loads reasonably well but can be impatient and paws while hauling. He ties and bathes and stands for the veterinarian and farrier when accompanied by a person he knows and trusts.

Kendrix's sire, Zonnekoning, is a 2004 KWPN stallion bred by J.B. Kamp Haers by Florett As out of a Topas dam, and has competed internationally at the Grand Prix level dressage.

Adoption fee is $1,500, negotiable only for an exceptional, well-screened home.
