This 20-year-old Quarter Horse/Clydesdale cross gelding began his career as an Amish plow horse before transitioning into a successful trail horse and is currently serving as a mounted police horse.
Clyde has confidently worked around large crowds, busy city and beach environments, traffic, bicycles, dogs, loud noises, and has participated in the famed Rose Parade. He has great sensory exposure with fireworks, gun fire, and obstacles. Nothing seems to rattle his steady disposition. He has never bolted, bucked, or been dangerous in any situation he has been exposed to.
He has an exceptionally kind, mild-mannered personality and truly enjoys having a job. He is the type of horse that will patiently stand, quietly wait, and go to work whenever asked. He is sound and safe, with no history of bucking, rearing, kicking, or aggressive behavior toward people. He is respectful of your personal space on the ground, easy to handle, and has the forgiving temperament that makes him enjoyable for riders of varying experience levels. His calm demeanor also makes him suitable for children.
Under saddle, he has far more “whoa” than “go,” making him an outstanding choice for someone seeking a relaxed trail companion or confidence-building mount. He understands leg cues well but appreciates clear communication and is typically ridden with spurs to reinforce cues. He responds best to direct reining but will neck rein when paired with proper leg pressure.
He is currently ridden barefoot (unshod) and has done well without shoes. He stands for the farrier and trailers quietly.
Clyde is an easy keeper but can be food aggressive toward other horses at feeding time.
