CATEMACO – AN EXCEPTIONAL, FINISHED THOROUGHBRED GELDING WITH AN INCREDIBLE MIND!
If you have ever admired the beauty and athleticism of a Thoroughbred but wished you could find one with the quiet, sensible disposition of a seasoned, finished riding horse, Catemaco is exactly the horse you've been searching for!
This magnificent 9-year-old, 16.2-hand Thoroughbred gelding is exceptionally stout, beautifully built, and one of the quietest, best-minded off-the-track Thoroughbreds we have ever had the pleasure of working with. You would never know this gelding was once a racehorse unless someone told you!
Catemaco is especially meaningful to us because we bred and raised him, owned and trained him throughout his racing career, and know his entire history. He has been retired from racing for three years, and we have taken our time thoughtfully developing him into the exceptional, finished all-around riding horse he is today.
Catemaco is NOT your typical OTTB project! He is extremely well broke and rides beautifully both English and Western. He willingly accepts full contact, softens into a lovely frame, and responds beautifully to his rider's cues. Switch him over to Western, soften your reins, and he will drop his head and travel quietly in a relaxed, long-and-low frame like a finished Western horse should.
His softness, responsiveness, natural athleticism, and willing attitude make him an outstanding Western Dressage or traditional Dressage prospect. He also has the potential to excel in jumping, ranch versatility, and a variety of other disciplines.
Outside the arena, Catemaco is equally impressive. He has extensive trail-riding experience, confidently crosses water and obstacles, and is a quiet, dependable partner to take out and enjoy.
One of his most remarkable qualities is his extraordinary temperament. Catemaco has been thoroughly desensitized to flags, tarps, noisy jugs, and a wide variety of distractions. He will carry flags and drag noisy jugs at the walk, trot, and canter — even BRIDLELESS! His quiet, willing attitude and exceptional training truly set him apart.
Catemaco is the definition of a jack of all trades, offering the athleticism and presence of a Thoroughbred with the quiet disposition and refined training of a beautifully finished riding horse. He is responsive without being overly sensitive, quiet without being dull, and has the kind of forgiving personality that makes him enjoyable for riders of varying experience levels.
Whether you're searching for a refined English mount, a finished Western horse, a dependable trail partner, or a talented prospect for Dressage, Western Dressage, or jumping, Catemaco offers an incredible opportunity.
We have restarted many Thoroughbreds over the years, and Catemaco stands among the very best we have ever offered. Finding another OTTB with this combination of size, substance, training, versatility, and exceptional temperament will not be easy.
