Dory is a green 6 year old registered Shire Sporthorse (shire/tb), she stands roughly 16.2h with lots of bone and wears a size 4 shoe. She was started as a 4 year old with 60 days of professional training in California with the intention of going in the English direction (dressage/hj). She sat after being started and is just now getting back to work. That being said she is good to handle- she’ll stand at the gate and wait for you all day, drops her head to be haltered/bridled, great to lead but doesn’t know personal space, ties OK, stands to be groomed etc. Since being with us she’s done some light arena work and has been used on the ranch to gather cows in rocky country. She is GREEN but will trot through belly deep sage brush without thinking twice, stands quietly to be saddled and mounted. Rides walk, trot, lope. She’ll occasionally protest forward movement if she’s being especially lazy that day but it has never resulted in anything athletic - a tiny crow hop at most and then continues on with her day. She can be heavy in the mouth so we’re working on softening her up and getting her feet freed up better but she’s going to be a cool horse! She’s currently direct/plow reining. If she stays with us she’ll continue being used on the ranch. Experienced rider that is comfortable with green horses recommended. Dory’s biggest flaw is farrier work- she did OK being trimmed but still required patience with her hinds. She’s now had 2 full sets done with us and it required meds to get done. She’s antsy/anxious with her fronts but really wants to lay on you with her hind end.
