Looking for an OTTB without quite so much of the “GO GO GO” racehorse mentality? Catty might be your girl. ❤️
Catty recently came to stay with me in Gold Bar while we help her connections find the right next home for her. She spent the last couple of months decompressing and learning that life after retirement is pretty darn good. Now she’s ready to start figuring out what comes next!
This girl is much more whoa than go. She’s sensible, laid-back and not overly reactive. She has a FABULOUS jog and a really pleasant personality. I could absolutely see her enjoying trails or becoming a nice lower-level all-around partner for someone who appreciates a quieter Thoroughbred.
Since arriving here, I’ve found Catty to be:
🐴 Easy to catch
🐴 Leads nicely, including alone and away from her friends
🐴 Loads and hauls well
🐴 Easy to saddle and bridle
🐴 Stands nicely for mounting and dismounting
🐴 Good with her feet and her feet are great
🐴 Completely unbothered by dogs
🐴 Happy around goats and other little farm critters
🐴 Sensible and not overly reactive
🐴 Definitely more whoa than go
🐴 No known vices
She’s a big 16.2-hand mare but has been very straightforward and pleasant to handle.
Catty does have an asymmetrical pelvis, which we want to be completely transparent about. It certainly didn’t stop her from being an athlete — she raced 19 times and earned over $40,000 on the track. Her laid-back personality is a big part of why we think she’ll be happiest in a lower-level second career rather than a high-intensity one.
She really doesn’t have that stereotypical hot, busy OTTB personality. So far, she seems quite happy with the idea that life after racing can happen at a much more leisurely pace. ❤️
💰 Catty is currently priced to reflect where she is in her transition from racehorse to riding horse. As she continues gaining off-track experience, exposure and education while she’s here, her price will increase accordingly. Someone who is comfortable continuing her education has an opportunity to get a really nice mare at her current price point.
