🔥 SPURGE — 9-YEAR-OLD BUCKSKIN GELDING 🔥
Tall. Dark. Handsome. Athletic. Kind-minded.
Spurge is a beautiful, athletic 9-year-old Quarter Horse gelding with the kind of mind that makes him genuinely enjoyable to own and ride.
He is easy to ride whether you want to spend the day softening, suppling and working low and slow, or you want to add speed and go have some fun. He is willing, responsive, and has a very kind personality. He wants to be a good citizen and is the type of horse you can build a partnership with.
He has been hauled extensively, typically 2–4 times a week, to different arenas and environments. He loads and unloads easily, stands quietly at the trailer, handles new surroundings well, and has been overnighted at shows. He eats and drinks well on the road and settles into a stall easily. He is good for the farrier and is an easy horse to have around.
🏆 BARREL HORSE
Spurge is currently consistently running in the 3D–4D range and has shown he has more to give.
I recently took him to The Ctreme in Nampa, where he handled the atmosphere exceptionally well. He was levelheaded through warm-up, the alleyway and the pattern all weekend. He ran a time-only Wednesday and competed Thursday, Friday and Saturday, finishing at the top of the 5D.
That experience gave me a lot of confidence in his ability to handle a bigger atmosphere and continue learning.
He has also:
• Been started on poles — and for a big horse, he can flat get through them!
• Been tracked on cattle and really enjoys it
• Been exposed to different arenas and environments
• Been hauled both alone and with other horses
• Been ridden outside of the barrel pattern to develop softness, body control and responsiveness
💥 THE KIND OF HORSE YOU CAN GROW WITH
I think Spurge would be a really cool horse for someone wanting to get their feet wet in the barrel pen without feeling like they are sitting on something that is going to scare them, while still having enough athletic ability and potential to become their next-level horse.
He isn’t being marketed as a finished 1D horse. He’s a horse with a solid foundation, a good mind, and plenty of room for his person to take him up the levels.
He is the kind of horse that can be your weekend barrel horse, your trail horse, your cattle horse, or simply the horse you enjoy riding at home.
Spurge is the kind of horse that makes you want to keep riding.
