Murphy is a gorgeous Ottb ready to get you noticed. He came off the track in July 2025, retiring sound with 39 starts. He has great breeding, incredibly clean legs and has no lameness issues or vices. He is great in a stall and has no problem staying in for your evening lesson while his buddies go out. He has a very curious personality and loves to explore new things - the type that likes to put his head in trash cans and follow you into the tack room (lol). With his curious nature, he is best suited for someone who will continue his groundwork and not let him get pushy. He is very smart and remembers his boundaries if the handler is consistent.

Under saddle, Murphy has been ridden professionally and used in group lessons with over 15 different riders- kids and adults. He is more of a laid back push ride and can match the riders abilities. He is happy to go around on a loopy rein and maintains the same pace, or can be put together in a frame by more advanced riders. He can be hard in the mouth and does require true half halts to get supple, but he is not rude and does not speed up if a rider hangs on him. He has been ridden/jumped/ shown numerous times in a hackamore or goes nicely in a bombers happy tongue loose ring snaffle.

He has shown and jumped Beginner Novice height (2’7) in Show Jumping and XC with plenty of talent for more. He is careful with good form and wants to miss the rails. He has been off the farm for shows and schooling numerous times, and even showed at Jump For Fun in Upperville and kept a level head in warm up with tractors buzzing by on the other side of the fence. He has schooled in the hunter rings at Morven park and has the look/jump form to be very successful in the TB Hunter division. He recently went on his first fox hunt and took to it like a fish in water. With zero prep, he stood quietly when the hounds left the trailer and surrounded him, stood well at every check, and was rideable even when the horse in front of him was bouncing up and down cantering sideways. He received compliments from the masters and staff all day long. I believe he truly enjoyed himself and will continue to fox hunt occasionally until sold.

He loads well in the trailer and is the same horse on or off the farm. He absolutely loves water and group activities. He does hack out alone, but is a little more alert than when he is in a group.

I love this horse and it’s been a pleasure to bring him along. I am open to an in barn lease as well. Price will increase with experience, but I am negotiable to the perfect home or someone who would continue boarding him at our farm.
