This is a hard one to write because she’s genuinely a wonderful mare, but with winter coming and a house purchase on the horizon, keeping an 18.2h horse just isn’t making much financial sense for me. We have owned her for 4 years now. She was sold to us as a 9 year old but I have had vet guesstimates range as widely as 5-20. If I had to guess I’d say she is around 15–17 years old. breed unknown, but appears to be a Friesian/draft-type cross. Etalon came back as a friesian gypsy, but she definitely has something else in her based on height alone. Black with minimal tobiano, and absolutely enormous in person. She is a very quiet, gentle, forgiving mare. She has been used to teach someone who had never been around horses before and took care of him without making a big production out of anything. She can sit for months and come back the same horse. She’s been on multiple trails and never batted an eye, single driven after 4+ years of not and did wonderfully, traffic does not bother her. She was used in a lesson program with kids age ranging from 5-14 for a year. She is happy to put up with human nonsense. Husband safe. Truly enjoyable to ride at all levels. She does canter, but it is a typical choppy draft canter. For someone who is experienced she does use what I call a “draft shoulder” and drifts if not corrected. She trailers well, bathes well, and stands for the farrier without stocks, however needs a strong farrier due to the sheer weight of her legs. She does have a higher maintenance diet. She requires quite a bit of grain to maintain weight and currently gets ulcer support. After the first round of meds she has been putting weight back on wonderfully. She doesn’t love extreme temperatures, she can drop weight quickly in the cold and doesn’t handle heat (90+ full humidity, Oklahoma summers) particularly well. I would rather be upfront about that than send her somewhere without the right expectations. For this reason, she needs someone who is experienced with drafts and has the financial capabilities to handle good hay and lots of grain. She goes through multiple 5+ bags of grain/rice bran/alfalfa pellets/ beet pulp shreds a month. She requires this to maintain weight and can not go without. She is not a horse I’m selling because she’s bad. Quite the opposite. She’s a big, sweet, dependable mare who deserves someone who wants exactly what she is. If money wasn’t an issue she would never be available. As a couple in their 20’s we just can not financially support her long term. She has truly taught someone who had never been around a horse how to ride, care, love, and support one. She is a special one of a kind girl. She will greet you in the morning and come running for food. She respects hot wire but absolutely will walk over any fence that is short to go find friends. Pm me for any further questions or pictures. It is far too wet to do full great riding videos but can plunk around in a field for videos.
