I've owned Handy since she was a yearling and know her inside and out. She's a beautiful, eye-catching mare with tons of personality, talent and try. Handy has approximately 25 lifetime runs, with only two this year (videos linked). Despite very limited hauling due to my own life circumstances, she has placed in the local 2D. I genuinely believe she has a lot of untapped potential with someone more committed to competing. She has a naturally fun style, hunts her barrels, runs hard and is forgiving of rider mistakes. She's gritty, honest and genuinely loves her job. She runs hard to first and doesn't require a perfect ride to make a good run. At home, she's laid-back, almost lazy, extremely broke and ridden regularly. At barrel races, she can get excited, particularly in the warm-up pen. She doesn't require much warm-up, but needs a confident, light-handed rider. She's not suited for someone timid or anxious. No gate or alley issues. Once pointed down the alley, she locks in and is all business. She's been lightly trail ridden, used to brand calves and chased the Heel-O-Matic. Excellent ground manners, friendly, easy to catch, good for the farrier and bathing, hauls well, shod and lives in a large dry lot. IMPORTANT — FULL DISCLOSURE: Handy is PSSM1 positive and has tied up three times in six years, each following exceptionally hard work beyond her normal workload. Otherwise, she has not been highly symptomatic in my experience. She has never been lame and receives routine veterinary care without significant concerns noted. Her PSSM1 status is a major reason for selling. I've become overly cautious about pushing her and don't feel I have the consistent hay resources, veterinary access or management confidence to campaign her to her potential. I believe she'd benefit from someone knowledgeable about PSSM1 with appropriate veterinary support. I truly believe in this mare and would love to see her talents utilized. I'm happy to discuss her complete history and management openly. The right home matters more than making a sale. If the right situation doesn't come along, I'm happy to keep her.
