On farm lease- Norfolk MA Jasper is a 14.1 arab x (maybe morgan?) that has been in our program for about a year. this little fella is SO neat! He has three athletic, ground covering gaits, and the heart to match. This dude has the best in your pocket personality, always the first to meet at the gate and is game for ANYTHING with the right rider. ring work? cool. hunter paces? awesome. trail rides? fabulous. Jasper came to us as an 8 year old with zero formal training so he is still what I would consider green broke in the arena, but he really just wants to please. He is brave and confident in so many ways, but his anxiety comes out in a peculiar way- ring work. his anxiousness stems from being unsure about “getting it right” in the arena. not about loud noises, or things being in a different spot than they were yesterday- it’s about if his rider is getting more tense because of *him*. he 100% is the type to feed off his rider, therefor requires a strong, soft/relaxed and confident rider that can reassure him he is in fact doing his job correctly (or firm but fair corrections if he’s not). He does best with constant physical and verbal reassurance, a pet on the neck and a “good boy” go a LONG way with this guy, you can feel his whole body soften when these things are done during moments he’s unsure. Jasper is a forward thinking ride, but has been well desensitized to accepting leg over the last year. He has been started over fences in the arena and gone on a handful of hunter paces and over xcountry jumps. he is still a training level horse as we have not cantered him fully down the long side, though he has begun working on lengthens and lateral movements. Jasper is built slightly downhill so has a bit of a “booty pop” canter, but is very adjustable and rhythmic. He is a great horse for learning to sit the first beat on because when he does it, it’s SO noticeable. Jasper would be perfect for a scrappy teenager, or adult that can take a joke and likes a project. Off property (showing, hunter pace etc) opportunities available. Anyone that would like to try him would be best to try him in a lesson first to set both him and rider up for success as he is such a particular guy. weekly lessons are required lease starts at 450/month for two rides weekly
