Mel is a super sweet easy-going gal. She has been at the farm since November 2025. Mel did retire with a few knee chip fractures that were successfully removed at Mid-Atlantic on 10/18/2025. Since the chips were removed, she was cleared to begin a new career without limitations. Mel is sound and barefoot. 4/12/2026 – Now that the weather is officially nice here in NEPA, Mel finally had her first post track/rehab ride (WTC). Oh my lord, was she a doll! Despite being a little emotional/calling back to the horses in the barn that were calling out to her, she was exceptionally brave and smart. No Buck, Rear, Spin. Very easy snaffle right with 3 balanced gaits, and she picked up both leads very easy. She was really wanting to seek and accept the contact. Mel is going to do very well in any ring or discipline you want to put her in. I can see her flying through the levels with how quickly she picks up on things. She was more “woah” than go for her first ride, but when I asked her to really move forward in the canter, she did with ease and I was able to bring her back very easy. Otherwise, she was perfectly happy maintaining the same pace that was set. Very Ammy-Junior Friendly! Mel stands on cross-ties for grooming, clipping and the farrier. She loves and wants to be loved on, very puppy dog personality. Mel has done a good amount of groundwork prior to her first post track ride (really it was the only thing we could do over the winter we had here). She is UTD on Coggins and Vaccines. Mel has no other injuries and no vices. She is not "mare-ish" and gets along with everyone in the barn. She is currently turned out in a small group of mares. (I will have to get better riding videos, my camera kept picking up the horses next door or falling over cause of the wind, I will add some of what I got from 4/12 to her YouTube link, or can send what I have per request)
