Lightning unfortunately did not had a great start in life. He came to our than Rescue as a foal not even 3 weeks old dumped in the Arizona Desert. He had some medical issues that where addressed as a foal and volunteers bottle fed him back to health. He was adopted out and than his life turned not so good for him once again. He went from person to person from trainer to trainer and inside he grew angry and resentful towards humans. Rumors had it that he place 2 trainers into the hospital. His last owner reached out to us 10 years later to our Rescue which was no longer in service to seenif we could take him back since she was going overseas. We found him a Arabian person in tucson thinking he would stay forever but 4 weeks later that person changed her mind also. That's when I had enough (ex vice president of the rescue) and went to go get him. He did remembered me,which was absolute heart warming for sure. When I brought him to my place I started addressing his problems ,first his medical ones. He had ulcers, his teeth had not been done, his hoof where under run and Lightning needed a few groceries too. Than summertime arrived and I noticed a Habronema growing on the side of his mouth which became HUGE fast. Vet removed it surgically..while he was healing we rode him Bitless..he never once offered to buck or tried to be naughty. My Trainer rode him around for a few times and Lightning was always the same, a bit lazy at times but happy. We started going into Fall and I noticed swelling in his chest. Pigeon Fever! Poor Ligtning just couldn't catch a break. I got him through the Fever and he his Healthy again. Even with him not being worked for several weeks,I tacked him up and he was the same under saddle. Lightning has trust issues and requires a person that will give him the time he needs to settle into a new environment. He is also sometimes hard to catch especially when alot is going on around him. He likes being turned out and not locked up all the time. He is currently turned out with Mares and geldings in a Herd environment setting. Lightning does NOT get along with Dogs and I haven't gotten him over his issue with dogs yet. Lightning is a purebred Arabian and gaits to die for. He is super flashy also. Lightning stands for the Vet and Farrier. He also stand untied while tacking up or down. He isn't very fond of bathing but will tolerate it. Lightning is looking for a experienced rider that will understand his trust issues and will not pressure him into things he doesn't understand. He is not kids safe yet or beginner friendly due to his abuse issues he endured. Once he trust you,the sweetest dude comes out,he learns quickly and is just a shy dude sometimes. He has been ridden western and english. Here he had a beginner riding him in the walk and he was fine,he also had a intermediate rider on walk trot and he was fine but all was done in a Arena setting. I have not had him out on trails but with some more training I think he would be fine.
