Retired from racing as a 7-year-old, and has enjoyed many years as a recreational riding horse across varied disciplines, including: youth rodeo, mounted patrol, parades, trail rides, pony club, 4H, gymkahana, dressage, and jumping. Tom is an active and willing horse, patient and tolerant with unconfident/inexperienced riders, responsive and balanced for more-skilled riders. His training in Western and English styles make him a versatile match for someone figuring out their riding preferences or who enjoys multi-discipline riding. Tom has been entrusted with many riders' first rides, and time after time proven himself to be safe, consistent, and a gifted teacher. Aside from some age-related arthritis and stiffness, Tom is sound for light riding with no maintenance, and benefits from some maintenance for moderate riding. Quality nutrition and ample turnout is key for keeping this horse looking and feeling good. Prominent wither, requires narrow-treed saddle. Stands 15.3 hands. Easy to catch, friendly. Halters, leads, ties. Stands for grooming, vacuuming, clipping, hoof trimmingand shoeing, bathing, tacking. Loads and travels quietly in trailer. Turned out with other horses in mixed herd. Well-socialized. Can be stalled. No vices. No history of injury or illness. Up-to-date on routine health and hoof care.
