I am looking for the right person to partner with my approximately 7-year-old Morgan cross gelding, Ares. This is a unique opportunity for someone who wants to help develop a young horse while working toward the goal of competing in three-day eventing. Ares came to us with evidence of previous mistreatment and arrived with very little handling. Over the past six months he has made tremendous progress and continues to improve every day. He is a kind horse with a willing personality, but he needs someone patient, consistent, and committed to helping him continue his education. About Ares * Approximately 7 years old * Morgan cross gelding * Young, athletic, and built to be a sport horse type * Has previously been started under saddle and ridden * Has not been ridden since coming into our program * Currently undergoing retraining and confidence building * Extremely head shy and still learning to comfortably accept a bridle * Excellent ground manners * Easy to catch and handle * No aggression, kicking, biting, or dangerous behaviors * Smart, willing, and eager to learn * Sound and healthy * Suitable for someone interested in developing a horse from the ground up Due to circumstances, the young rider we originally purchased him for is no longer able to continue with him. Rather than sell him, I would like to find someone who will become part of his journey and help him reach his potential. What I Provide * Free on-site lease * Board, feed, hay, and routine care * Access to an eventing trainer who comes to the property (at a fee) * Access to an on site trainer who is able to help with young horses (at a fee) * A structured training environment * His tack needed - saddles, bridles, etc * Guidance and support throughout his development * Payment of your first year of approved competitions as Ares progresses and becomes show-ready What You Provide * Commitment to be at the property a minimum of four evenings per week * Consistency and reliability * Patience and a willingness to follow a training plan * Weekly paid lesson with the eventing trainer * Your own riding equipment * Ares' regular farrier expenses For Experienced Riders
: You must have proven horse experience and be comfortable working with a horse that requires continued education and confidence building. For Riders Without Proven Experience
(but does have experience): You may still be considered if you are willing to commit to four evenings per week, assist with barn chores in exchange for additional guidance, and participate in weekly paid lessons. Please understand that Ares is not currently ready to be ridden. The initial focus will be groundwork, trust building, handling, desensitization, and continued training. Riding opportunities will come as he progresses. This horse is being developed specifically for English disciplines and three-day eventing. He will not be ridden western.
