Scotch is an uncomplicated, tolerant gelding. We have owned him since he was a yearling, training him from the ground up. If you love an exceptional walk on a laid-back horse, then Scotch is the horse for you. He has a smooth jog that is easy to sit bareback and a gentle lope departure that makes him an enjoyable mount for anyone in the family. He starts off cool in the morning and is happy to take it easy. Scotch does not require extensive riding to stay at his best. He is good with traffic, noise, and town rides. The long hours of ranch riding and exposure to rough country, water, and dead fall have given him the experience to confidently explore the back-country. He catches without treats, even in a herd of horses. You can saddle him up with no warm-up necessary and ride him off alone. Ranch bred all the way, Scotch has never been spooky and is fine with anything being done on his back. He is very much a horse of habit and will work for anybody, even if the rider does not ride perfectly. This spring he proved how safe he was with a novice guest riding in an 360 acre pasture when a group of young horses went running by and he stayed completely calm. He has a good neck rein, backs, side-passes, opens gates, has a nice easy lope, takes both leads, and even lets the dog ride double. His smooth, ground-covering walk will make him a favorite for trail rides or gathering pastures. His smooth gaits make him my favorite when I need to ride bareback. Scotch’s long tail grows thick and full with no extra care. We focus on long-term soundness in our young horses through barefoot hoof care and by not pushing them too hard at a young age. We welcome you to come to our ranch to ride Scotch. He has a blistered brand scar on his hip. Please call with any questions. We have additional photos and videos available.
