Rocky offers a combination of qualities that are hard to duplicate. He is truly one of a kind.
When it comes to gait, if you're looking for an effortless, silky-smooth ride, Rocky is hard to beat. Despite his exceptional bone, muscle, and substance, gaiting comes effortlessly to him. He moves like poetry. Rocky is naturally multi-gaited. He comfortably performs everything from a flat foot walk to a four-beat saddle gait, transitioning seamlessly between each gait. Whether barefoot or shod, he stays naturally gaited and simply floats down the trail, making every mile feel easy and every ride a pleasure.
When it comes to the trail, Rocky has plenty of miles under his belt. We place a strong emphasis on both solo riding and group riding, so he is comfortable with leading, following, or riding out alone. He has been exposed to the kinds of obstacles and situations on the trail, including wildlife, traffic, cattle, water crossings, deadfall, all kinds of rough terrain, and even our high energy and extremely mischievous bird dog. He has been on overnight camping trips, a cattle drive, and has experience being hobbled and high-lined. Rocky also has been roped off of and desensitized to loud objects like bullwhips. Rocky is very surefooted and has the stamina and build to carry any rider smoothly along the trail all day.
Rocky also has all the fancy buttons that make him a pleasure to ride. He is soft, supple, and responsive, riding willingly in either a bridle or a halter. He backs with the lightest touch of the reins, stops off your seat, neck reins with ease, side passes, yields both his forequarters and hindquarters, and responds well to leg cues. We have also taught Rocky to open and close gates. He stands to be mounted and will sidepass to any object or the mounting block with the point of your finger. He can also be mounted or dismounted from either side. We believe Rocky will thrive with a confident rider who appreciates a soft, responsive, and well-gaited horse and can provide direction.
On the ground, Rocky is a gentleman. He stands quietly tied, loads and hauls well, is good for the farrier, and bathes well.
With respect to breeding, Rocky's build and presence are a reflection of his strong, foundation breeding. Both his sire and dam are registered Missouri Fox Trotters. His sire is by a son of Rex's Golden Touch and out of a direct daughter of Missouri Traveler E., bloodlines that will be very familiar to those who appreciate the foundational lines. We purchased Rocky directly from his breeder. Although both of Rocky's parents are registered Missouri Fox Trotters, Rocky is ineligible for MFTHBA registration due solely to a change in the association's DNA verification requirements.
