Meet Chief, a talented and incredibly kind 5-year-old Friesian/Welsh cross who is truly a pleasure to have around. He is very well broke to both ride and drive and has the temperament, training, and work ethic to excel in a variety of homes. Chief was previously used as a school pony for an Amish family, where he was trusted to drive the children to school. As a result, he is exceptionally road safe and has plenty of experience around traffic and activity. He genuinely loves children and has a wonderful, willing personality. Since coming to us, Chief has enjoyed lots of trail riding and has proven to be confident and dependable. He happily crosses water, and he enjoys taking the lead on trail rides, even when riding through busy town. Chief's main rider has been a 15-year-old girl, and the two of them have been showing successfully and thriving in dressage. He is uncomplicated and easy in the bridle, both under saddle and in driven dressage. He picks up his leads nicely and has a wonderfully comfortable, easy trot that would suit an adult amateur or youth rider. His beautiful hind leg and natural way of going give him tremendous potential for both ridden and driven dressage or even working equitation as his trainer has noted several times the potential to do so many disciplines. He has a stocky build which sets up his rider for a very comfortable ride. One of Chief's greatest qualities is how consistent and uncomplicated he is. He can have time off for months and, when you pull him out, he is ready to go and feels just like he did when you left him. He has excellent manners from the ground—standing quietly in the cross-ties, behaving beautifully on the wash rack, and making tacking up easy. He does great with his farrier and is an easy keeper. Chief does prefer a quiet hand when bridling, as his ears can occasionally be sensitive to touch. Otherwise, he is an incredibly straightforward and enjoyable horse to work with. Chief is turn-key and ready to meet his person. Whether your goal is to compete in dressage, pursue driven dressage, enjoy miles on the trails, or simply have a kind and dependable horse to enjoy, he has so much to offer. Come take him for a ride or drive and fall in love with him just like we have.
