Meet Nacho! Nacho is a 2016 chestnut gelding standing at 17.2 hands, he was started on the track but did not move on to compete due to a tendon injury, he was rehabbed in 2020 and cleared for full riding late 2021/early 2022. Nacho has not had much official training to finish him since 2020 due to my own inconsistencies and can go in any direction, he is primarily English ridden and has been worked over poles/done light jumping on the ground. He is not a "sit in the pasture doing nothing type" horse, he NEEDS to be in a consistent routine and thrives off being pastured with 4-6 horses, he gets pushy when he is only with one other horse. Nacho is currently on Magnesium Chloride and Raspberry leaf to manage his demeanor and hormones(too interested in the ladies and becomes rowdy without the mag which may be linked to boredom/turnout arrangement). Late this year Nacho was diagnosed with EPM but has been through two rounds of treatment and is now clear, we caught it early enough that there were only slight behavioral changes and minor discoordination but we are on the track to strengthening his hind. I will admit Nachos ground manners are not the best, he likes to fall in on the lunge and turn the opposite direction when not asked, he loves your space and will lean into while leading however it has been a work in progress to set him back up for success. I've let Nacho be overly curious about his surroundings to an extent but will correct him once I need his attention. Nacho can be both good and bad at the mounting block, it really depends on how he is feeling that particular day. I’ve only ever had 3 incidents where he wasn’t good, 2 times when he was 4(environmental impact)and 1 time recently where he just wasn’t feeling good as his gut was off and he was sore, I personally didn’t pick up on it but two or so weeks prior I rode him bareback no issues. He will stand if asked but can fidget if you take too long to mount. He will stand quiet in the cross ties but does easily get bored and will begin to fidget. In the past he has not offered to kick/bite or rear in a malicious or aggressive manner but he has gotten a bit pushy in the paddock as he's too big for his britches(one occurrence in 6 years), he is very easy to catch in the paddock and will sometimes come when called. Nacho currently rides in a medium gullet saddle and his halter/bridle/fly mask are all horse sized. I am willing to answer any further questions/provide more information, I just stink at writing ads.
