Registered Jockey Club Mare with big names on her papers 💰 $30,000 in track earnings ⸻ This one’s a little hard to write, because Ivy is the kind of mare that’s easy to fall in love with. Ivy is everything you hope for in a young Thoroughbred — big, beautiful, level-headed, and kind. She’s only four, but she carries herself like she’s been here before. She had 60 days of professional training last spring and took to it like a pro. She doesn’t act like an OTTB — she’s quiet, thoughtful, and enjoys having a job. She ties, crossties, lunges, stands for the farrier, and knows all the basics — bending, counter-arching, yielding her front and hind. She’s smart and willing, the kind you look forward to working with every day. But here’s the part that changes her path: After a few months off, Ivy started showing signs of discomfort. We’ve since found arthritis in her SI joints and an asymmetrical pelvis. She’s been getting chiropractic and laser work, and she’s been injected to keep her comfortable. There’s also one overlap in her spine — long-term, she’d need surgery to truly fix it. She’s made it clear that hard work just isn’t in her future. The injections helped, and she hasn’t bucked since, but she’s only been lightly ridden a handful of times since then. She’s also got a cloudy eye, though she sees just fine. Despite it all, Ivy’s heart never changed. She’s still gentle, still tries, and still greets you like she’s happy to see you every single day. That’s why I want the right person for her — someone who will give her the easy, comfortable life she deserves. She’d make a lovely broodmare, with her build, brains, and bloodlines, or a light flatwork horse for someone who just wants a kind soul to spend time with. She’s not the high-performance horse I hoped to bring back to the barrel pen, but she’s made it clear what kind of life will make her happiest. If you’re looking for a mare with beauty, kindness, and a big heart — one that will give back as much love as she’s given me — Ivy just might be the one. ❤️
